Lewis Carroll aurait-il imaginé pareille Alice ? Au pays du Mathurin, les surprises filent bon train d’étages en étages. “Un nuage de lait ?” semble demander la jeune fille assise, surprise comme l’était la véritable Alice lorsqu’elle demanda à l’auteur britannique de coucher sur papier l’incroyable histoire qu’il venait d’inventer pour elle. Mais l’analogie s’arrête là. Alice au Pays du Mathurin était de passage. Elle a déjà filé vers d’autres contrées féeriques. Les théières et tasses qui l’avaient accompagnée semblent, elles aussi, sur le point de regagner leurs quartiers. Profitons en encore quelques minutes, le temps d’un nuage de lait.

In the land of Mathurin, there are surprises on every floor. “A splash of milk?” the young girl seems to be asking, as surprised as the real Alice was when she asked the British author to write the incredible story that he had just invented for her. But the similarity ends there. Alice in the land of Mathurin was just passing through. She has already disappeared off to other magical lands. The teapots and cups that had accompanied her also seem to be on the verge of returning to their quarters. Let’s make the most of them for a few more minutes, just time for a splash of milk.
