On 17 August this year, I took part in an original initiative launched by the Office du Tourisme et des Congrès de Paris (Paris Tourist Office and Convention Bureau- OTC).  Every Friday, the tourist office invites a blogger to take the helm of its Twitter account, “Paris je t’aime”, managed by Julien Bréal among others.  After some very interesting and informative input from Kim from Unlock Paris, Elodie from Yelp, Hélène from A Paris ou ailleurs and Fanny from Paris pêle-mêle, on Friday 17 it was finally my turn. And what a pleasure it was!  All day long, starting early in the morning, I was able to share and discuss “my” Paris: restaurants, legendary spots, culture and, of course, hotels. So I was able to tell you about the Madeleine district, the Butte aux Cailles, the Champollion, the restaurant “Dans le noir”, hôtels insolites (unusual hotels), the Palais Royal Theatre, the bouquinistes (second-hand booksellers) on the banks of the Seine, the Parisian beehives or the “Palaces”.
The idea of handing the keys to a Twitter account over to a stranger was borrowed from Sweden, whose @sweden project has become famous. For a whole week at a time, Sweden’s official Twitter account is managed by a Swedish citizen who is free to publish and share content on the country’s behalf. One thing’s for sure: the OTC’s interpretation of this model is a first in France! With 789,500 visitors welcomed in 2011 at the various information points, the “Paris je t’aime” sign is becoming well-known on social networking sites (over 5,100 fans on Facebook and 1,600 followers on Twitter). The OTC is really boosting the group’s visibility and seems to have struck gold with this project. Given its success, it might well become a permanent fixture! As for me, I would be delighted to take part in it again: I still have many things to share with you!
